Tucked in an East Dallas tree covered neighborhood,  we were the second owners of this modest home designed by modernist Glenn Allen Galaway in 1953. Our challenge was to undo the modifications that had occurred over the last 4 decades, address areas of deferred maintenance and neglect, then restore the home to its original modern roots.  Layers of paint revealed the original color palette inside and out, the original screen porch was rebuilt; wood floors, and cabinetry were refinished.  The project was a balance of renovation and restoration. Asbestos floors were replaced with natural cork indicative of the era, the original Hotpoint kitchen was modified and restored.  No primary walls were moved, the flat gravel roof was restored, primary lighting was retained, as were the original windows, doors, and millwork.  A rear deck was added, raised just above the 100-year flood plain. We still cook dinner in our 24” 1953 Hotpoint stainless steel single oven.
